Hiking Trails Hiking Trails

Discover Quimper and its surrounding areas via its network of hiking trails, recently created and improved by the "Sentiers du Stangala" (Paths of Stangala) and the " Marcheurs de Cornouaille" (the Cornouaille Walkers); two groups affiliated with the Association of French Walking Clubs. These 8 circuits allow you to walk through the city districts, passing through gardens and wooded areas, not forgetting the attractions of the banks of the Odet and the Steir:

  • Two trails in the Penhars district:

o Penhars from wood to wood (11 ,5 km - 3 hours)

o Le Corniguel, Kérogan bay (9 km - 3 hours)

  • Two trails in the Kerfeunteun district:

o Towards the chapel of Ti Mamm Doué (8 km - 2 hours 40 minutes)

o Discover the gorges of Stangala (10 km - 3 hours)

  • Two trails in the Ergué Armel district:

o In the footsteps of Saint Alor, the 3rd bishop of Brittany (11 km - 3 hours)

o Creac’h gwen, fountains and peat bog (9,5 km - 3 hours)

  • Two trails in the centre of Quimper

o Locmaria, the origins of Quimper (3,5km - 2 hours, with many sites worth visiting)

o Quimper, the old districts (5 km – 2 hours with numerous sites worth visiting and many inviting places to stroll, with routes marked out by bronze studs in the ground).

Designated trails in the 8 communes of the conglomeration

  • Seventeen short walking trails (from 3 to 13.5 km) are proposed by the Departmental Committee for Hiking in Finistere and the communes of the conglomerate. They are marked out in yellow on the ground.
  • Twenty three pedestrian trails (from 1.4 to 9 km), marked out in blue, are proposed by the 8 communes of the conglomerate. They guide you through your family’s discovery of the communes by promoting short trails that are accessible to most « little walkers ».
  • Fourteen mountain bike circuits are also available, with 4 levels of difficulty (very easy to very hard). These are also marked out. Choose your circuit according to your level of fitness and the time available, and discover natural riches, little lanes and wooded areas, not forgetting the historic architectural heritage of the towns of Quimper, Ergué Gabéric, Plomelin, Pluguffan and Plogonnec.

The mountain biking center "Vallée de l'Odet" also proposes two easy circuits through the commune of Fouesnant and three 'difficult' itineraries in the Glazik area (Landudal and Langolen).

The topo-guide® « Around Quimper, Fouesnant and Briec on foot » shows the 17 hiking trails. You will also find several trails in the areas of Fouesnant and Glazik. (9,5€ from the Quimper Cornouaille Tourist office and selected shops).

The topo guide Balades et vous dans Quimper Communauté (Your strolls around Quimper Bretagne Occidentale)

For less experienced hikers, or for those looking for a very sportive circuit, three new itineraries were created in 2015 by the City of Quimper with the support of the Quimper Walking Club. These are marked out in blue on the ground:

  • Quimper, along the water (4.8 km, easy, family / discovery) - leaves from the Place de la Résistance.
  • The Odet Estuary... as a family (4.5 km, easy, family) - leaves from the « la cale neuve » car park
  • Sport and discovery of the wooded areas of Ergué Armel (9 km, difficult / sportive) – leaves from the Aquarive swimming pool car park.

The topo-guide « Your strolls around Quimper Bretagne Occidentale » depicts the 23 pedestrian circuits proposed by the 8 communes of the conglomerate. It is available for 3€ from the Quimper Cornouaille tourist office as well as in certain communes (enquire at the town hall).
